Jisoo Chung
Jisoo Chung is an artist and educator working primarily through video, installation, and performance. She received her MFA from UCLA in Art (New Genres) and BFA from Seoul National University in the Department of Painting.

Designed for students preparing for their college portfolios or wanting to find/develop their artistic voice, this 6-week intensive is project-based and perfect for those who are motivated and dedicated to one full project.  Instructors will guide students through their medium of choice and challenge students to create works that are impactful and cohesive.

Instructor: Lisa Kwon
Lisa Kwon is a freelance journalist and writer who enjoys writing about the diasporic movements of the 20th century that have made Los Angeles one of the most culturally diverse areas in California. She has contributed to Teen Vogue, Vulture, L.A. Taco, Eater, Prism Reports, Vice, Cultured Magazine, Dazed, National Geographic, and many more places.


Writing exists to think through our ideas with a kind of hope for the future. Open to participants with any level of experience, this four-week workshop will explore different short formats of creative writing to unlock participants’ boundless imagination. Inspired by picture prompts and questions for self-reflection, participants will learn skills like using details to show, not tell; writing compelling dialogue; and developing interesting characters.

Bookmaking Workshop Series Session #2: Bookbinding

Instructor: Gray and Rosie from Nova Community Arts:
Nova Community Arts is a queer-owned 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts education center located in Atwater Village, Los Angeles. We are committed to offering arts education, access to materials and equipment, and a platform of creative expression for the community, including students, professionals, and amateurs alike.


This session delves into the variety of book binding methods and artist practices around books and publication. After a field trip to visit local artist book collections, students will jump into 3 hands-on classes with teaching artists from Nova Community Arts, Gray and Rosie, learning 4 binding methods: Japanese stab stitch, pamphlet stitch, coptic stitch, and hardcover accordion book.

Session #3: Illustration

Instructor: Kaitlyn Hahn
Kaitlyn Hahn is a multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer living in Los Angeles, her hometown. She received her BFA from Dartmouth College in 2019. Kaitlyn has exhibited at the Jaffe-Friede Gallery, the Barrows Rotunda in Hanover, Art Share LA in Los Angeles, the CICA Museum in Gimpo, and Somewhere on Earth in Joshua Tree. Her work has been featured in The Dartmouth, The Asian Cyborg and Othered Bodies, and The Fader.

At the intersection of graphic design, illustration, and fine arts, this workshop explores various image-making approaches that span from drawing, painting, printing, and typography. Working closely with a body of writing, participants will craft their story-telling skills while refining their illustration skills and styles.
