Create a summer masterpiece in 5 weeks! In this 5-week summer course, students will explore different possibilities of the canvas and its outdoor/public extension and create two painted images, stemming from our research, to contribute to our reinterpretation of the community board at Deukmejian Wilderness Park. The purpose of this class is to broaden the perception of the individual canvas, strengthen the “artist's eye” in order to problem-solve material/skill limits and re-frame, experiment with an amalgam of art forms (written, material, time, history, context, etc.), and consider the materiality of the public space. Students will be looking at artists such as: Fionna Connor, Nam June Paik, Mike Kelley, Noah Puriofy, and Skylar Haskard among others. This class will be mostly outdoors!
