About LA Artcore

LA Artcore is a non-profit art space dedicated to the creative exploration, discovery, and expression of the global residents of Los Angeles while supporting the careers of established and emerging contemporary artists. Artcore reflects the global perspectives of Los Angeles by engaging contemporary artists as the visual and performing conduits of and for the residents and communities in which they live, work, and serve.

Since its beginnings in 1979, LA Artcore has been guided by core values of art practice steeped in critical thought partnership, nurtured in a collaborative and supportive environment. By creating human connections through Contemporary Art, Artcore continues the vision of Founder Lydia Takeshita, a survivor of the Internment of Japanese-Americans during WW2. During Artcore’s earliest beginnings, these diverse exhibiting artists were excluded from representation by mainstream galleries. LA Artcore fills a needed role to support experimentation and expansive artistic practice.

FAQ

What are the criterias for the selection process?
Three major components: creative excellence, dedication to artmaking, and financial needs.

Why is the application process so simple?
Making the application process short and easy was an important part of structuring our scholarship opportunities. This decision was made so that even those without prior formal education in the given subject can have equal opportunity to receive this award.

Who decides on the final recipients?
In general, the Drawwing Cabinet team, composed of Los Angeles based artists, educators, and anonymous sponsor(s) who share our vision in art education, reviews and makes decisions regarding scholarship opportunities. For Summer 2023, we are inviting representatives from our partnering organizations, GYOPO and LA Artcore, to review applications with us.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship?
Yes. The scholarships will be reviewed by different groups of people and are geared toward two different programs. If you believe you are eligible for more than one scholarship and are interested in both programs, we encourage you to apply for both.

Are you offering full scholarships?
Yes, both scholarship opportunities offer full scholarships. However, we reserve the right to distribute the scholarship as partial scholarships depending on the collective decision of the reviewers. This decision will be made based on the qualification(s) of the applications we receive, the number of applications received, and the criterias set for each scholarship opportunity. To ensure your qualification for a full scholarship, we advise that you read and follow instructions closely, communicate clearly, and submit an application that showcases the best of your abilities.

*Disbursement of a scholarship is dependent on the criterias set by Drawwing Cabinet, teaching artist(s), and/or the donor and is specific to each applicant pool. Drawwing Cabinet reserves all rights to modify the criteria, amount, and distribution of the scholarship under the general consensus of the Drawwing Cabinet team.
